Yeah I thought so too. After the amazing opening number I was disappointed we didn't get more like that. And there was that scene, a good scene, where Ryan and Emma are dancing in the street.(that long take) There totally should have been singing there.
La La Land just wrecked me in the best way. I might think of life in terms of "before I saw la la land" and "after I saw la la land" now. sigh. The dreamy cinematography, the MUSIC, the incredible charm of Ryan and Emma, and the story of dreams vs. reality and what you give up to accomplish those dreams was incredibly heavy but honest.
